Episode description ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ted Garrett asks Sue to help him confirm fears which he has about some Strontium getting into the wrong hands. The team realise that somebody may be planning on combining C4 and the Strontium to create a radioactive bomb to make part of Washington, DC uninhabitable for many years, as well as killing thousands of people. A young man named Terrell Banks transported the Strontium from the shipment office, and they find he opened up the case, and is now dying from exposure to radiation. The team need to get information from him before it's too late. Transcript ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ Bullpen - day ] Sue, Lucy and Levi enter the bullpen. Lucy: I can't believe Connie's doing this. Sue: Well, did you talk to her about it? Lucy: Oh, she doesn't wanna talk. She doesn't wanna hear anybody make sense about it. That's my sister. Myles: What has your sister done now? Sue: Getting married. Myles: Ohh… she's finally marrying that Ron McGonnell guy? Lucy: Donald McGonnell. Myles: Right. That was the guy at your sister's barbeque who kept asking me if I'd like fries with that. Lucy: Oh, you're hilarious, Myles. Myles: I know. Sometimes I am. Myles walks off, smiling to himself. Sue: So, why don't you like er, the Donald? Lucy: Well, let's just say I think she can do a whole lot better. I mean, she broke up with the guy last weekend for like, the tenth time, and the next thing I hear, she, she's getting married to him next weekend. What is that? Bobby and Jack come into the bullpen. Bobby: You are out of your mind, Michael owns him. Owns him! NJ pulls up, he fakes that pivot right, and he shoots! Bobby jumps up in the air, doing an impression. Jack: Don't be bringing that weak stuff in here, baby. By the way… that is what Coby's gonna do to Michael tomorrow night. Bobby: We'll see. And when I say we'll see, I mean… this could be the last time they play against each other, maybe ever. We're gonna be there, baby. Demetrius: You guys did not get tickets to the Wizards/Lakers game? Bobby: Sixth row, mid court. Tara: George Bush would have a hard time getting tickets that good. Who do you know? Bobby: Perhaps you just mentioned him. Tara: You didn't get tickets from the… Bobby tilts his head. Tara lets out a breath. Ted Garrett enters the bullpen. Ted Garrett: Bobby. You still in contact with Hakim Quadir? Bobby: I am. Ted Garrett: Good. Fill me in. Bobby: Through one of my informants, we learn that Hakim is looking to buy some explosives. He now thinks that I'm a dealer and that he's about to make said deal. In which case, I shall deliver to him the bad news that in fact I'm not a dealer, and he's just committed a felony. Ted Garrett: What kind of stuff is he looking for? Bobby: Erm… (he checks a bit of paper) Plastic explosives. C4. Ted Garrett: (Taking the paper from Bobby) I think we all better take a look at this. Thomas, see if you can tell what these guys are saying. Tara projects the surveillance up onto the screen. The footage is very blurry and quite dark. Bobby: Righto, well, the bloke on the left is my man, Hakim. When was this taken? Ted Garrett: Five days ago. (To Tara) Pause a minute. (To Sue) Interpol got this footage yesterday from an informant. The man handing the suitcase to Hakim is Sergi Slovakov, our Szechwan black market arms dealer. What we really wanna know is what's in the suitcase. Now, right here Thomas, I really need to know what he's saying. (To Tara) Go ahead. Sue: Can you go in tighter, Tara? Tara zooms in on the two men. Sue: It's kind of dark, but it looked like he said… highest quality. Pure grade something. I'm pretty sure about that. (She watches for a few moments more) I didn't get that word. Can you run it again, Tara? Tara backs it up. Sue mimics the movements of the man's lips for a moment to try to figure out what he's saying. Sue: Draw, or straw something. Sorry… one more time, even tighter. Tara zooms in even closer. Sue: Maybe… strawdium. Jack: Strontium. (He fingerspells 'T') Strontium. Sue: Yeah, I think that's it. Strontium. Ted Garrett: You've just confirmed what we feared. Intelligence got wind that some strontium fell into the wrong hands. We hoped it wasn't true, but it looks like it was. Sue: What is strontium? Bobby: It's one of the mostly deadly radioactive components around for assembling a dirty bomb. Lucy: We're not talking about a nuclear weapon here? (She looks at Tara) Are we? Tara: Not in the way you're thinking… Lucy: I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Tara: When a highly radioactive material like strontium is combined with a conventional explosive like C4… that's a dirty bomb. The explosion propels the radioactive material over a wide area, rendering it… uninhabitable… for fifty years, or more. Bobby: Not to mention that thousands of people, maybe even hundreds of thousands of people, will be exposed to deadly doses of radiation. Lucy: That's definitely a bad thing. Bobby: Well, with Hakim in this country looking to buy explosives, I'd say that we've got to think he's planning on bringing the strontium here. Jack: If he hasn't already. Ted Garrett: Well, if he hasn't, we have to keep it out. If he has, we have to find it. [ Opening theme plays ] [ Bullpen ] Tara: To show you the magnitude of what we're dealing with… if a dirty bomb containing strontium was placed somewhere near Grand Statue, and the prevailing winds were blowing at 15 miles per hour, the damage would be… well, you can see for yourself. Tara starts up the 3D map of the area on the projection screen, showing how the bomb would affect the area. Ted Garrett: The dark red signifies the damage done by the initial explosion. The purple depicts the spread of the strontium. The Supreme Court, The Library Of Congress, and the Counter Building would all have been rendered uninhabitable, and every person in the vicinity of the blast would have been killed by the initial explosion. Myles: So, if I were a creator of strontium… what route might I take to get into the country? Sue: And all we know is that it was in Pakistan five days ago? Ted Garrett: Interpol believes it may have shipped through Turkey. Lucy: Well, if we're talking nuclear radiation, why don't we just follow the trail of dead bodies that tend to glow in the dark? Bobby: As long as it's encased in a thick container of lead, it should be pretty safe. Tara: But… if that shielding is missing or broken, Lucy's right… someone standing nearby would receive a fatal dose of radiation within moments. Ted Garrett: Let's start with what we know. (To Bobby) Set up a meeting with Hakim. The sooner we get him into interrogation, the better. Demetrius: Does Hakim have the expertise to put together a dirty bomb? Bobby: There's nothing in his profile that indicates he's a bomb maker. My guess is he's just the middle man. Jack: Then that's the good news. It's not easy to put one of these things together, even if you have all the ingredients. They're still gonna need an expert to help them. Ted Garrett: I'll bring in the other agencies, and get the alert out within the bureau. Nobody goes home until we put this thing to bed. This is not only our top priority, it is our only priority. [ Street ] The team have set themselves up on different parts of the street ready for Bobby's meeting with Hakim Quadir. Jack is dressed as a window cleaner and is cleaning the windows of a shop. Bobby walks past him and stops on the street near him. Bobby: Looking sharp, Sparky. Did anyone ever tell you blue's a good colour on you? Jack: Hey, if it pays the bills… How's the business, Myles? Across the street, Myles receives the message over his wire. Myles responds over the wire. Myles: I'm on break. Bobby: The games begin. Hakim is right on time. Hakim Quadir approaches Bobby. Hakim Quadir: Do you have it? Bobby: C4's some awfully powerful stuff, mate, but I can get ya as much as you want. Hakim Quadir: I need to make the purchase as soon as possible. Bobby: I love it when a plan comes together. Hey, just out of curiosity… mind telling me what you want it for? Hakim Quadir: Not your business. Bobby: Righto. Just thought I'd ask. Hoped it might save you some time later. Myles and Demetrius start casually nearing Hakim Quadir and Bobby. Hakim Quadir: Save me time? What does that mean? Bobby: Well, then we could skip the interrogation part. Sorry Hakim, you're in a bit of a bind, mate. I need you to come with me now. Bobby pulls out his ID, showing it to Hakim Quadir. Hakim Quadir turns and starts running, but he doesn't get more than two steps before Demetrius stops him. Bobby: Gentlemen… Hakim. Hakim, say hello to the FBI. Demetrius shows Hakim Quadir his badge while Bobby starts cuffing him. Myles: (To Hakim Quadir) Nice to meet you. [ Interrogation room ] Jack and Sue enter the interrogation room, closely followed by Bobby, pushing the handcuffed Hakim Quadir in. Hakim Quadir: I ain't done nothing wrong. I merely came to American to conduct some business, and I'm accosted by the authorities. Bobby pushes Hakim Quadir into a chair, before taking a seat himself. Bobby: Yeah, well… we have an unimpeachable witness… me… who says you tried to buy explosives… from an FBI agent. Hakim Quadir: I believe, even in America, it's not against the law to use explosives to blast away tree stumps. Jack: Well, actually, it can be… if there's still a tree attached to it. Bobby: And it definitely is if somebody's sitting in that tree. Sue: You were in Pakistan a few days ago. Maybe we could go easy on you if you tell us what business you were conducting there. Hakim Quadir: I have many business associates all over the world. You'll have to be a bit more specific than that. Hakim Quadir leans slowly forward across the table towards Sue. Bobby pushes him back. Bobby: Righto. A man named Sergi Slovakov gave you a suitcase. We wanna know what was in it, and where it is now. Hakim Quadir: I don't know what you're referring to. Jack: I think you do. And we're gonna find it with, or without your help. Bobby: Hakim. You're not walking out of here any time soon, mate. You might wanna reconsider your options. Hakim Quadir: (After a pause) I want a lawyer. [ Bullpen ] Jack and Sue enter and approach Tara. Tara: Found something that may be of interest. Follow up on Hakim's cell phone records show he called a shipping office at the Baltimore docks yesterday. When I called it, they said a man with a Middle Eastern accent had called asking whether a shipment had come in yet. Jack: Got an address? Tara hands him a bit of paper. Tara: Thought you'd never ask. [ Shipping office at Baltimore docks ] Jack and Sue have arrived to see about the shipment. They are talking to a woman named Evelyn Jones in the office. Evelyn Jones: Crate you're talking about was picked up yesterday, late afternoon. Jack: Was the recipient Hakim Quadir? Evelyn Jones: No. It was a… (she checks) Mr T. Banks. Sue: Er… do you remember what he looks like? Evelyn Jones: Black kid. Young… 18… 19 maybe. Sue: (To Jack) Definitely not Hakim. Jack: (To Evelyn Jones) So, you got a good look at him then? Evelyn Jones: Oh, he was standing just as close to me as you are right now. (To Jack) I probably wouldn't forget your face either. Jack: Can we get you to help us with one more thing? Evelyn Jones: For you… anything, sweetie. [ Bullpen ] Tara is with Evelyn Jones from the Baltimore docks, using the computer to create a picture of the man she saw. Evelyn Jones: Close… but the eyes aren't quite right. Tara nods and uses the computer to change them a bit. Evelyn Jones: Maybe they were more oval. Tara tweaks one of the eyes to be more oval. Evelyn Jones: Oh, that's more like it. That actually looks quite a bit like him. Jack: Tara… see if you can match this image and the name Banks, first initial T, with any of the local prisons, gangs, and arrests made within the last year. Tara taps something into the computer, and it takes all the significant points from the image. The computer quickly gives them a photograph of a man. Evelyn Jones immediately recognises it. Evelyn Jones: That's him! Tara: Terrell Banks. Jack: Evelyn, thank you very, very much. Evelyn Jones stands to leave. Evelyn Jones: Any time. Lucy: I'll walk you out. Tara picks up the print-out from the computer. She goes over to Sue and shows her. Jack leans in to see. Tara: Terrell's got a nice little wrap sheet going for him. Assault and armed robbery seem to be his specialties. A close up of the page reads: Gang member: Apostles Assault 11/22/89 Assault 04/15/90 Resisting Arrest 04/15/90 Assault w DW 08/06/90 Armed Robbery 05/12/91 Tara: Gang affiliation, The Apostles. Terrell's got a younger brother, Marcus, also an Apostle. Demetrius: (To Jack) That's your old buddy, Curtis Sanford's gang. Sue: You were friends with the head of the gang? Jack: Curtis Sanford was one of my first busts. Bond like that is special. He was just a punk kid then, but now he's management. Demetrius: Might be time to renew old acquaintances. Jack: (To Tara) Can you see if the DC cops have whereabouts on Curtis? In the meantime, I'm gonna check this address on Terrell. [ Terrell Banks' home ] A Swat team dressed in protective gear raid the home of Terrell Banks. One Swat agent finds him in a bedroom, looking very unwell. Scanning the room for traces of radiation, he finds none. The Swat agent removes his protective head gear. Swat agent: (Shouting) Up here! It's clear. Myles, Jack, Bobby and Demetrius head upstairs, guns drawn. The Swat agent points his gun at Terrell Banks. Swat agent: You Terrell Banks? Terrell Banks: Yeah. Who you? What's going on, man? Jack, Bobby, Myles and Demetrius enter the room. Jack: Any sign of the suitcase? Swat agent: No. Jack: Terrell, we're with the FBI. What did you do with the suitcase you picked up at the docks? Terrell Banks coughs, and doesn't answer. Demetrius: (Over his radio) Send the paramedics up here. Get this guy to a hospital. Myles: (To Jack) There's no suitcase here. [ Hospital ] Jack and Demetrius have arrived at the hospital to talk to Terrell Banks. Doctor: He's in pretty bad shape. He's been exposed to a very high dose of radiation. Jack: Why didn't that show up on any of our handheld monitors? Doctor: Because he was exposed, not contaminated. Demetrius: What's the difference? Doctor: Well, when he opened the container, he was instantly exposed to the radioactive material, but since he didn't actually touch it, he wasn't contaminated by it, so he can't pass it on to you or me. Sue is waiting outside of Terrell Banks' room and sees them approaching. She stands up. Sue: Is he going to survive? Doctor: No. His internal organs are too badly damaged. Best thing we can do now is just try to keep him comfortable. Jack: How long does he have? Doctor: If you know how to get in touch with his next of kin, you oughta be doing it. Demetrius: Well, we need to ask him some questions. Is there any problem with that? Doctor: I'm not sure how coherent he's going to be. Jack: Well, I don't care if he's breathing his last breath. We have to find out what he knows. Now, we'll alert the proper agencies as to what's going on here, but we're gonna need you to keep this quiet. Doctor: I understand. Alright. The doctor walks off. Sue: So much for wondering if the strontium has made it into the country. [ Terrell Banks' hospital room ] Jack, Sue and Demetrius are there to ask Terrell Banks about what he knows. Terrell Banks: Don't know what you're talking about. Jack: We're trying to be as civil as we can about this, Terrell, but if you want to play hard ball, we can do that too. Demetrius: Personally, I think civil's highly overrated. I much prefer the hard ball route. Jack: Where is the crate that you picked up down at the docks? Terrell Banks: Don't know what you're talking about. Demetrius: Tick tock, Terrell. Jack: What he means is we don't have time for games. Neither do you. You thought you'd score yourself a little dough huh? Instead, you scored some radiation. Terrell Banks: Look man, I don't know what you're talking about. Jack: You took one look in that crate. Just enough to kill ya. Demetrius: This ain't the flu. You're melting from the inside out! Jack: Look, it's too late for you, Terrell. But we need to find that crate before it happens to somebody else. Terrell Banks: (Through coughing) Alright. Alright. Demetrius: You think you're in pain now? Wait until we tell 'em to stop the drugs. Sue pours some water into a cup from a jug. Sue: Stop it! Get out! Sue goes to Terrell Banks' side with the water, ushering Jack and Demetrius out. Sue: Both of you, get out. Jack and Demetrius leave the room. Sue helps Terrell Banks to drink some of the water. Sue: You ok? You want some more? Terrell Banks: No. I'm cool. Sue: I apologise for them… but what they said is true. You're very sick. And it is because of what was in that crate. (She pauses) You did open it, didn't you? (Terrell looks away) Terrell, I'm sorry this happened to you. If we don't find that container… a lot of innocent people are going to die… maybe someone you even care about. If you gave that crate to your brother, Marcu… Terrell Banks: I didn't! Marcus ain't got nothing to do with this. I don't be hanging around him no more. I don't even know where he is. Sue: Whoever sent you to pick up that crate, knew it was dangerous… and didn't even care enough to warn you. Terrell Banks: No… you're wrong. Sue: So then, he did warn you about the danger? Terrell Banks struggles with his breathing a little, and doesn't answer. Sue: He doesn't care anything about you, Terrell. Why would you protect a person like that? Terrell Banks: (After a pause) He goes by the name of Abdul. He used to be ???, until he converted to Islam in prison. Me and him were tight when I joined The Apostles. Sue: Terrell, where's the suitcase you picked up yesterday? Terrell Banks: That's it. That's all I know. Sue: Terrell… Terrell Banks: Just leave me alone. [ Corridor in the hospital ] Sue has just left Terrell Banks' room and has rejoined Jack and Demetrius. Jack: Does he know where Abdul took the crate or suitcase? Sue: He says no. Jack: Do you believe him? Sue: I don't know. Demetrius: What about his brother, Marcus? Sue: He wouldn't talk about him. But I wouldn't be surprised if he knows where he is. Demetrius: I'm gonna start trying to track down Lester Aames, aka Abdul. Jack: Yeah. Demetrius: Very good work, Miss Thomas. You make an excellent good cop to our bad cop. Demetrius walks off. Jack: Good job. (He fingerspells 'OK' as well as speaking) Are you ok? Sue nods very slightly. Jack's cell phone rings and he pulls it out of his pocket. Jack: (Into the phone) This is Jack… Thanks, we're on our way. Jack ends the call. Jack: (To Sue) DC cops have just located Curtis Sanford. [ A pub - night ] Jack and Sue arrive outside to talk to Curtis Sanford, who is inside. Jack shows his ID and badge to the men at the door. Jack: Thanks. Jack and Sue head towards the bar inside where Curtis Sanford is standing. Curtis Sanford: (Mockingly) Special Agent, Jack Hudson. How you been keeping yourself, huh? You don't call, you don't write. Where's the love, Jacky baby? Jack: Curtis. Curtis Sanford: Speaking of love… (He looks at Sue) You gonna introduce us? Jack: Curtis Sanford, Sue Thomas. She works with me. Curtis Sanford: If I'd have known they gave you partners that look like this… I'd have joined the FBI myself. Jack: Our loss. Curtis Sanford: (Noticing Levi) Who's this? Your drug sniffing dog? (He looks at Levi) Go ahead. Sniff away, brother. I'm as clean as she is beautiful. Levi barks. Curtis Sanford laughs to himself. Curtis Sanford: (To Jack) I'm going legit now. Not that I wasn't before. It's just that now, I'm even er… Curtis Sanford & Jack: …more legit. Jack: Uh, listen, Curtis. I'd like to sit down and catch up, but right now I'm a little strapped for time. What can you tell me about Lester Aames, aka Abdul? Curtis Sanford: Not much. Me and him ain't exactly on the same social circuit these days… since he had his conversion. Sue: Do you know where he is? Curtis Sanford: (Shaking his head) Aames has got his own thing going on, but I don't want no part of it, or him. He's what you might what you call a… a fanatic. Jack: Yeah, we need to find him. Curtis Sanford: What's going on, Jacky? Jack: All I can tell you is that if he's successful at what he's trying to do, it'll be bad for everybody's business… legitimate or not. Curtis Sanford: Let me see what I can find out. Curtis Sanford walks away and Jack and Sue start heading for the exit. Sue: Do you trust him? Jack: There are guys I trust less. Sue: That didn't answer my question. Jack: No, I don't trust him, but right now he's the best shot we've got at finding Abdul. [ FBI building corridor - day ] Bobby is walking down the corridor towards the bullpen. Tara enters into the corridor from a door on the side and sees him. Tara: Bobby, I finally broke it. Bobby: Well, we all know how painful that can be. Broke what? Tara: The security lock on Hakim's computer. We recovered some e-mails. In one he sent to a recipient in Pakistan, he talked about a meeting with a third party he called Prof, as a potential solution to… the merger need. I thought that might be the merging of the strontium with the C4 explosive. Bobby: Yeah, yeah, righto. So er, by Prof, you mean professor? Tara: I'm running a check on professors who's curriculum has anything to do with radioactivity… and who could conceivably build a dirty bomb. Bobby: Yeah, that's worth a shot. Good work. Tara: Hmm. Tara heads off down the corridor, past the bullpen. Bobby goes into the bullpen and goes to Myles' desk, where he is sitting. Bobby: Myles… Myles: Hmm? Bobby: List of potential bomb makers… how ya doing? Myles: They set off a firecracker, I'm all over it. ATF has already picked up stream on suspects for questioning. Bobby: Righto. Would you happen to know if any of them are professors that go by the nickname or the screen name of Prof? Myles: Not so far. Why? Bobby: Well, Tara found something in Hakim Quadir's computer indicating that someone called the Prof could be our bomb maker. Myles: Then we oughta have another chat with Hakim. Bobby: Nah, it's not gonna happen. His attorney's had him moved to county. We couldn't pry his mouth open with the ???. Myles: I wonder if this attorney knows whether his office is upwind or downwind from the potential bomb site. Bobby: Yes… well, I actually mentioned something like that to him. He said that his client is innocent, a victim of aggressive big brother law enforcement tactics. Myles: Oh… well, let's hope it's downwind. Lucy walks into the bullpen talking on her cell phone, making her way to her desk. Lucy: (Into the phone) Connie, I can't talk now. Things are really jammed up here… Yes, I picked up the dress… I love the red bow… the bow is blue, right… (her voice rising) that was a trick question… ok, so I haven't picked it up yet, but we're in a situation here and I couldn't get away… what?… yeah, but… you know, I thought, I'm thinking this might not be the best week to try and have a wedding… I can't say anymore… I'm sure the dress is gonna fit me just fine, ok. Just… yeah, I gotta go. Lucy presses a button on her cell phone to end the call. Sue has been watching Lucy's side of the conversation curiously. Sue: What's going on? Lucy goes over to where is Sue is standing by her desk. Lucy: That was my sister. Look, can we talk? Sue nods. [ Conference room ] Sue and Lucy are sat down in the otherwise empty conference room. Lucy: Oh, I don't know what to do. With what's been going on, I don't feel right letting my family come to town for this wedding. Sue: Can you let them know without really… letting them know? Lucy: Well, I tried to suggest that they postpone the wedding, but my sister thinks it's 'cause I don't like her fiancée… and I don't… but that's not what this is about. I mean, now, it's just like she's gonna go through with this stupid wedding just to spite me… and I feel like, I have to tell them… but if I do… I'm not gonna pass my next routine lie detector test. I mean, I can see it now when the guy says to me, "have you ever passed (she lowers her voice) classified information to anyone, even your family, outside the bureau?" The little pin is gonna be jumping off the machine. Jack then enters the conference room. Jack: Sue, Curtis Sanford's on his way over. He says he's got something for us. Jack leaves the conference room as quickly as he entered. Sue looks back to Lucy. Lucy: Go ahead. Sue gets up and proceeds to leave the room. Lucy sighs. [ FBI building ] Jack and Sue have just led Curtis Sanford into the FBI building. Curtis Sanford: So, this is the FBI. Nice. A little red, white and blue for some people, I imagine, but er… I kinda like it. Sue: We'll tell the director you approve. He'll be happy to hear that. Jack: So Curtis, what do you have for us now that you didn't have when we left you two hours ago? Curtis Sanford: What can I say? I got good sources. And they tell me something's going down tonight. Something you guys might be interested in. Jack: I'm listening. Curtis Sanford: First, I got a question for you. Jack: What? Curtis Sanford: Abdul is working with terrorists, isn't he? Jack: I can't answer that. Curtis Sanford: You just did. Abdul's guys are breaking into a warehouse over on Calburton to boost some explosives. C4 is what I'm hearing. Might that be the kind of information you were looking for? Jack: That's a good place to start. Sue: Do you have an address? Curtis Sanford: Yeah. [ Bullpen - night ] Myles comes into the bullpen looking over a report, yawning. The place is busy with everybody working the bomb case. Lucy goes over to Sue's desk, where Sue is working, looking actually quite wide awake. Lucy: How do you do it? Sue: Do what? Lucy: You look so refreshed. I mean, when I left last night for thirty minutes of tossing and turning on that incredibly uncomfortable bureau issue cot, you were here. When I got back, you were still here. Myles approaches them, taking the papers which Lucy is holding. Myles: Well, since the noise doesn't bother her, she probably took a bunch of catnaps all night long. Lucy: Myles! That is the most… Myles: Save it. Myles walks off. Sue: It's true. I did take… catnaps. Only, I tell Levi they're dognaps. Right Levi? Sue and Lucy look at Levi, who is curled up on the floor by Sue's desk. Lucy: I wish I were him. He looks so comfortable. Lucy starts to head back to her desk. Sue grabs a sticky note from her desk and jogs after Lucy. Sue: Er well, before you curl up under your desk, can you do me a favour? Lucy: Sure. Sue: I need an address for Olivia Henderson, here in DC. Lucy: Ok… who's Olivia Henderson? Sue: Terrell Banks' grandmother. I've been searching his file, and… if anyone has a chance of getting through to him… she might be it. Lucy nods. [ FBI building corridor - day ] Bobby and Jack are headed down a corridor towards Ted Garrett's office. Bobby: You know what one of the worst things about all this is? Jack: What? Bobby: We're gonna miss Coby and Michael. Jack: That's one of the worst things about this to you? Bobby: Well, not the worst thing maybe, but still… with what we paid for those tickets, mate… it's right up there. Jack and Bobby stop outside Ted Garrett's office. Jack knocks on his door before they step inside. Jack: You wanted to see us? Ted Garrett: Yeah, come in. I just got word the warehouse Curtis Sanford said was gonna get hit, didn't. We got Squat out there all night. Nobody showed up. Bobby: Well, Curtis must have gotten some bad information. (To Jack) Maybe his connections aren't what they used to be, eh? Ted Garrett: I'm not so sure. The what was accurate… it was the where that didn't pan out. A bundle of commercial C4 was stolen last night, except… it was from a construction site in Virginia. Jack: Well, I'd say this situation just went from serious to critical. Ted Garrett: Makes me wonder if Curtis is somehow involved. Is it possible he set you up as a diversion tactic? Jack: My gut says no, but… finding out the answer to that question just went to the top of my 'to do' list. [ Pub ] Jack and Bobby have gone to talk to Curtis Sanford. Curtis Sanford: We both got played, gents, and I'm not any happier about it than you are. Jack: I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt on this. Bobby: (To Jack) That's very generous of you, mate. It's more than I'd do. Curtis Sanford: You think I want some crazies coming into my hood and blowing everything up? You don't think I care what happens to this country? Bobby: Yeah. I'm sure you're a real patriot. Curtis Sanford: A: It ain't good for business. B: I got friends in this city, just like you. Listen, what I'm trying to say is I am offering my services to help you guys find this stuff that you're looking for… and in a situation like the one we're in… the code of ethics that your job demands might just be a liability. Whereas as freelancer like myself might not only have easier access… but how shall we say?... more effective interrogation techniques. Bobby: (To Jack) Talk about your unholy alliance. The Apostles and the FBI, fighting side by side for their common good. Now, there's a scenario. Curtis Sanford: Sweet. I think I'll put it on my resume. Jack: (To Bobby) Alright. What we don't know, we don't know. [ Street ] Sue stops a woman on the street. Sue: Excuse me. Are you Olivia Henderson? Olivia Henderson: Yes… Sue: Do you have a grandson by the name of Terrell Banks? Olivia Henderson: That's right… Who are you? Sue: Sue Thomas. I work for the FBI. I think Terrell needs you. [ Hospital ] Sue enters Terrell Banks' room, closely followed by Olivia Henderson. Sue: Hi Terrell. Someone's here to see you. Olivia Henderson: Terrell? Terrell Banks: (Sounding very ill) Grandma. Olivia Henderson: What's happening? Terrell Banks: (Struggling to speak) I don't know, Grams. I didn't mean no harm. I just wanted to see what was in the crate. Olivia Henderson: Are you in pain? Terrell Banks: They gave me stuff for that. I'm sorry, Grams. I wish I would've listened to you more. Olivia Henderson: (Looking upset) Terrell, where's Marcus? Is he alright? Terrell Banks: Marcus wasn't with me. I ain't seen him. Don't let them try to trick you into flipping on Marcus, Grams. Olivia Henderson: Terrell, ain't nobody trying to trick anybody… 'cept the man you been working for, who put you here. Sue: I'm not your enemy, Terrell. I'm trying to help you. If Marcus in involved with Abdul, tell us, so we can help him. Olivia Henderson: (Getting emotional) Terrell, baby… I can't lose you both. Terrell Banks: Marcus… been hanging at this house… on G street. [ House on G Street ] Two FBI teams and a specialist team dressed in protective gear arrive outside. Marcus Banks tries to make a run for it around the back of the house. Myles and Demetrius chase after him. Demetrius: That's him! As Marcus Banks tries to climb over the fence at the back of the garden, Demetrius pulls him down. Myles points his gun at Terrell Banks, while Demetrius proceeds to handcuff him. Demetrius: Marcus Banks… Marcus Banks: What do you want from me? Myles: Your brother sent us. Demetrius: Let's go. [ Bullpen ] Jack picks up his desk phone, which is ringing. Jack: Yup… it's me… well, I want him alive, Curtis… yeah, we're on our way. Jack puts the phone down and stands. Bobby is already putting on his jacket. Jack: Curtis has Abdul. [ Street ] Jack and Bobby park up just behind Curtis Sanford's car. Jack and Bobby get out and approach Curtis Sanford and two other men who have gotten out of his car and are approaching them. Jack: Where is he? Curtis Sanford: He's just chilling… but he's not the answer to our problem. Jack: What do you mean? Curtis Sanford: He ain't gonna talk. And believe me when I tell you… if he was going to… he would've. Bobby: Yeah well, could you possibly thaw him out and hand him over? Curtis Sanford nods to one of the men with him. The man pops open the trunk of Curtis Sanford's car to reveal Abdul, who is tied up in there, mouth taped. The two men with Curtis Sanford pull him out of the trunk. Bobby: He fall down the stairs? Curtis Sanford: Yeah, that's right. He's got a real balance problem. Jack: Looks like he fell down a few flights. Bobby: (To Curtis Sanford) In between floors you got nothing from him, mate? Curtis Sanford: Nah, he's like all those other crazies, man. He wants to die. Thinks he's going to a big party. Jack and Bobby step towards Abdul. Jack shows him his ID and pulls the tape away from his mouth. Jack: Abdul Furuk, you're under arrest for conspiracy against the government of the United States. Curtis Sanford: Yeah, not to mention the people of the hometown hood of Curtis Sanford. Abdul spits on Curtis Sanford's shoe. Abdul: You pigs, I spit on all of you. Going to prison means absolutely nothing to me. Bobby: Well, here's a newsflash, mate. It means even less to us. Bobby puts the tape back over Abdul's mouth. Bobby: I think we've heard enough. Jack and Bobby escort Abdul to their car. [ Hospital ] Myles and Demetrius escort Marcus Banks, who's in handcuffs, down the corridor. Sue and Olivia Henderson come down the corridor towards them. Marcus Banks: Grams, where's Terrell? Olivia Henderson: Terrell's gone, baby. Marcus Banks: Gone? What are you talking about? Sue: Your brother died, Marcus. We found Abdul gave him a death sentence. Olivia Henderson: You gotta help 'em, Marcus. Terrell wanted you to help them. Marcus Banks: I ain't helping nobody. Olivia Henderson starts getting a bit emotional and falls down in despair. Sue and Demetrius rush to help her back up. Demetrius: (To Myles) Get him out of here. Myles escorts Marcus Banks away. Demetrius sits Olivia Henderson down. Demetrius: Are you gonna be alright? Olivia Henderson nods. Jack comes towards them from down a different corridor. Demetrius: You turn up anything at Abdul's? Jack: No. Nothing at Marcus' either? Demetrius: No strontium, no C4. Sue: So who has it? Jack: I'd say we'd have to assume the bomb maker has it. [ Interrogation room ] Jack and Demetrius are interrogating Abdul. Myles is watching from the viewing area. Jack: You seem like a pretty intelligent guy to me, Abdul. Why try to kill thousands of innocent people? Abdul: For the pure pleasure of knowing there's many infidels who will suffer the fate that they deserve. I only wish that I could be there myself to watch it. Bobby and Sue come into the viewing area to join Myles. Bobby: Hey. So how's it going? Myles: Oh… you know, I almost believed that when they were handing out the evil gene that this guy was fighting to get to the front of the line. What about Marcus? Anything? Sue: He still doesn't believe Terrell died from radiation. He's convinced that we poisoned him. Myles: What, even after his grandmother told him otherwise? Bobby: Well, he thinks we brainwashed her. Doesn't have to make sense with these guys remember. Believes one thing, and one thing only - whatever Abdul says. Myles: You know, you listen to Abdul for more than thirty seconds, you start to realise the only thing he cares about is his own twisted agenda. Anything other than that… including Marcus and Terrell… just a means to an end. Sue: (Looking thoughtful) Good idea, Myles. [ Later on in the interrogation room ] Demetrius: So… everyone's expendable, right Abdul? Jack: Well, not everyone. I'm sure Abdul feels terrible about his friend, Terrell, dying. Abdul: Terrell is of no consequence to me. He deserved to die for opening a container that he shouldn't have. Jack: Then again, if you told him what was in that suitcase, he probably never would have opened it. Abdul: He is of no consequence. In the viewing area, Sue, Bobby, Myles and Marcus Banks are watching. Marcus Banks: I've seen enough. [ Bullpen ] Ted Garrett walks into the bullpen. Ted Garrett: Khayyat? Bobby: Yes, Khayyat. That is the name of the guy that Marcus said came by to pick up the C4. Ted Garrett: The bomb maker? Bobby: We don't know for sure. Marcus just knew his name. See, Abdul didn't tell any of his guys what he was really up to. Tara: We checked for a Professor Khayyat. There is none listed at any college or university in the US. Actually, none in North America. Myles: And none is entered under any kind of Visa. Demetrius: What kind of name is Khayyat? Myles: Turkish, or… Arabic. Sue: What if it actually means something else? Names in most languages have other meanings. Tara checks on her computer. Tara: Khayyat is Arabic. English translation… tailor. Bobby: What, like the guy who hems your pants? Myles: Pants in your case. Expertly hand-stitched suits from London in mine. Lucy: So, what if it's not Professor Khayyat, but Professor Taylor? Probably Taylor with a 'y'. Tara checks on the computer. Tara: Got three in the DC area. John Taylor at Bardell, professor of engineering, Daniel Taylor at Georgetown in the social sciences, and a mathematics professor named Brian Taylor at George Washington. Jack: Well, if we're right, one of them is planning a dirty bomb as we speak. Ted Garrett: Get right up. Let's hit them all. [ Georgetown ] Professor Daniel Taylor is leaving the Department of Mathematics building. Bobby and Tara get out of their car and stop him at the bottom, showing him their badges. Tara: Professor Daniel Taylor? Bobby: Could we have a word? [ Street ] Myles and Demetrius get out of their car and stop Professor Brain Taylor on the street and show him their badges. Demetrius: Professor Brian Taylor? Myles: FBI. [ Bardell University ] Jack and Sue are looking for Professor John Taylor. Inside the building, Jack and Sue are talking to a woman named Colleen, who works for the professor. Jack: We need to see Professor John Taylor right away. Colleen: Uh, 'fraid he's not in. Sue: Is he teaching a class? Colleen: Uh, no. He's doing research this afternoon. He's gone all day. Jack: Where would we find him? Colleen: I don't know. Er… why? Is he in some sort of trouble? Jack: How long have you worked for Doctor Taylor? Colleen: Not long, why? Jack: We need to have a look inside his office. Colleen: Oh, I really shouldn't let you do that. Sue: Colleen, we're dealing with national security here. It's extremely important. Colleen: Oh, I guess that's ok. I mean, if you can't trust the FBI, who can you trust? Colleen leads Jack and Sue into Professor John Taylor's office. Sue starts looking around, while Jack spots a photograph of a man on the desk. He picks it up. Jack: (To Colleen) Is this the professor? Colleen: Yes. Sue finds an award on a shelf underneath the whiteboard. She picks it up and shows it to Colleen. Sue: (To Colleen) MPC. What's that? Colleen: Um, Maryland Prison Centre. Professor Taylor volunteered there as a teacher. Jack: (To Sue) Lester Aames, aka Abdul Furuk did eight years at Maryland Prison Centre. Sue: I think we've got our connection. Jack: (To Colleen) Does he have a cell phone? Colleen: Uh, yes. While Jack pulls out his cell phone and dials for Lucy, Colleen grabs one of Professor Taylor's business cards and hands it to Jack. Jack: (Into the phone) Lucy, it's Jack. Listen, I have a cell phone number for you. 5550163. I need to know where it is, find out where it's sending out signal from. Colleen: You guys can do that? Sue: Thanks, you've been very helpful. [ Outside Bardell University ] Jack and Sue start heading back to the car. Jack is still on his cell phone. Jack: (Into the phone) Yeah… good… good… ok, we're on our way there. Jack ends the call. Jack: (To Sue) Taylor is somewhere south-west of the mall. Got the signal narrowed to the larger office complex. And Lucy also found a picture of him, and she's wiring it to all units. [ Outside larger office complex ] Jack and Sue arrive outside the larger office complex, where everybody inside is already being evacuated. Sue quickly lets Levi out of the back seat of the car and she and Jack quickly run over to Tara for an update. Tara: With the prevailing winds, a detonation from the top floor of one of these three buildings would spread the radioactivity right towards the White House. Jack: (Joining up with Bobby & Myles) Alright, we think Taylor is in one of these towers. Bobby: Yeah ok, but which one? Tara: We can't narrow down the cell phone signal that specifically. Jack: Alright. (To Myles & Bobby) You check the east tower, (To Tara & Demetrius) west tower… let's go. They all rush off to check their designated areas. [East tower] Myles and Bobby are checking. [West tower] Tara and Demetrius are checking. Demetrius: (Over his radio) Seventh floor, clear. [Central tower] Sue and Jack are checking around. Sue looks around a corner and sees Taylor. She quickly takes her head away so that he doesn't see her and waves at Jack to get his attention. Jack looks at her questioningly. Sue: (Fingerspelling only) Taylor. Sue points in the direction she saw him. Jack heads around to get him. Taylor is busy doing something on his cell phone. Jack: Khayyat. Taylor looks up and then turns to start running. Jack quickly catches up with him and pins him against the wall as Sue and Levi enter the corridor. Jack proceeds to handcuff Taylor. Jack: Alright Khayyat, where is it? Where is it? Taylor/Khayyat: Where is what? A moment later, Jack has handcuffed Taylor to the railings at the top of a flight of stairs. Taylor/Khayyat: What are you doing? Jack: (Grabbing Taylor by his jacket) We've got people searching every building in this complex for your bomb. Now, I'm gonna ask you one more time… where is it? Taylor/Khayyat: You're too late. You'll never find it in time. Jack: (Letting go of Taylor) Alright. We'll see. But if we don't, you'll get a close up view of your work. Jack leaves Taylor and starts to lead Sue down the stairs. Taylor/Khayyat: (Sounding slightly worried) Where are you going? Jack: As far away from here as we can get. Taylor/Khayyat: You're bluffing. Jack runs back up, angry. Jack: (Angrily) Look, if this place goes up, it'll be a pile of rubble, and with the radioactive bomb, no-one's gonna come anywhere near this place for years. Who's gonna know? Sue: Jack! Jack: What!? Sue: You can't. Jack looks back at Taylor. Jack: (Calmly) Yes I can. If he wants to die, I'm happy to grant him his wish. Sue looks worried. Jack pulls Taylor's cell phone out of his pocket and punches in his number. He slaps it back into Taylor's hand. Jack: (Angrily) That's my cell phone number. If you change your mind, hit send. Jack heads back down the staircase again, going past Sue. Sue looks up at Taylor, who glares at her beggingly. Sue looks down the stairs, back at Taylor, and then rushes down the stairs with Levi, following after Jack. Taylor struggles with the handcuffs. [ Outside the office complex ] Jack, Sue and Levi walk away from the complex. Jack get onto his radio. Jack: (Over the radio) Bobby, clear everybody out of that building now! Jack puts the radio back onto his belt and turns to Sue. Jack: (To Sue) Wow, you're getting pretty good at that good cop/bad cop thing. You picked up that one on the fly. Sue: The question is… are you really bluffing? Jack: Save the tax payers the cost of a blinking trial. (After a pause) Your call. Sue: What if you're wrong? Jack: I'm not. Myles and Bobby jog over to them. Myles: Everyone's out. Bobby: We gotta go, Jack. Jack hesitates and looks at Sue. Jack's cell phone then rings. Jack: The professor just blinked. (Into the phone) Yes?... You've made a wise decision, Professor. Jack ends the call and hands Bobby the handcuff keys. Jack: He's between the second and third floors. Bobby: Righto. Bobby and Myles go off to get him. Jack lets out a breath. Sue: How did you know? Jack: Martyrs don't use time bombs. If he really didn't care if he lived or died, he would've wired himself up and set it off. Jack walks off and Sue breathes a sigh of relief. [ Bullpen - evening ] Tara is sitting at her desk messing around with a Rubik's cube. Jack, Bobby and Myles enter. Jack does a double high five with Tara. Myles: Hakim flipped on Abdul, Abdul flipped on Hakim, and Khayyat flipped on everyone, including himself. Bobby: Everybody's singing. It's like an opera. Demetrius: Music to my ears. Demetrius does a high five with Jack. Lucy: Great job, Miss Thomas. Sue: I'm just glad your family's safe… even if you don't like the guy your sister's going to marry. Lucy: I didn't even get a chance to tell you. The wedding's been called off. Sue: (Looking worried) You didn't tell them? Lucy: No, no, I'd made a decision. I was going to, but… I didn't have to. Donald and Connie got into a huge argument. Sue: About what? Lucy: She asked him if he liked the bridesmaid dresses, and I guess he was a little too honest… He said he hated them. Sue: What did you think of them? Lucy: You know, for the first time, Donald and I actually agreed on something. Sue: But you didn't tell your sister you didn't like them? Lucy: Oh, of course not. Only Donald is that dumb. Jack is sitting back in his chair and looks at his watch. He suddenly gets up. Jack: (To Bobby) Oh, we still have an hour to make the Wizards/Lakers game. Sue looks a little confused. Lucy: (To Sue) Basketball. Bobby: (To Jack) Oh, I don't know. It's been a… been a long couple of days. Maybe we should just bag it. Jack: Are you crazy? It's Michael against Coby, maybe for the last time ever. Does any of this ring a bell? Sue looks to Lucy questioningly. Lucy: Michael versus Coby. Tara: He must really be tired. Bobby: Yeah, I'm just a little out of it, you know. Maybe we should just sell the tickets. Jack: Oh no. You didn't? Bobby: What? Jack: You already did it. You sold our tickets?! Bobby: Well, I didn't think there was any way we were gonna be able to go, and with what we spent on those tickets, I just thought it was the prudent thing to do. (Quietly) Even made a… nifty little profit. Lucy: See, that's a man for ya. The world's coming to an end, he's selling tickets. Jack: I do not believe you did that. Bobby: I know. Jack looks thoughtful for a moment and then picks up his phone. Sue: What are you doing? Jack: Well, somebody's gotta do something. (Into the phone) Curtis? Hey, it's Jack. Um, listen… Do you think you could do me another little favour?.. Wizard-Lakers tickets. What are my chances?.. Tenth row? Bobby has leaned in to hear the conversation. Bobby: Woohoo! Bobby quickly slaps his hand over his mouth and Jack pushes him away. Jack: Uh, that's great. Can I have two? Bobby slaps his hands together and goes back over to where Myles and Demetrius are sitting. Bobby: Yes! We're back. Jack looks over at Sue has he listens to Curtis on the other end of the line. Jack: Er, er, hang, hang on a sec. (To Sue, covering the mouthpiece of the phone) Have you ever seen Michael Jordan play basketball? Sue: Just on TV. Jack: You wanna go? Sue: Are you crazy? It's Michael versus Coby! Sue grins and excitedly waves her hands at Jack. Jack: (Into the phone) Curtis, better make it three. Sue then looks at Lucy, and her face drops. She looks back at Jack, and Lucy smiles expectantly. Tara whistles to get Jack's attention and then points at herself. Demetrius motions to himself as Jack looks over to him, and then motions to Myles. Levi barks. Jack: Curtis, uh… (he clears his throat) How many can you get? Sue: (Signing only) I love this game! Myles: (To Sue) I give up. Sue: (Speaking and signing) I love this game! Sue looks at Lucy, throwing her arms up into the air. Jack: (Throwing his free hand up) Yes!! The rest of the team cheer and clap, and throw their arms up in delight. Sue and Lucy clasp each others' hands in excitement, and then Sue puts out her arms, making fists with her hands and moves them in a circle.
