Episode description ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Demetrius is being stalked by a man recently released from jail, who he put away twelve years ago. Meanwhile, a doctor has accused Lucy of causing a scratch on his 69 Corvette and wants her to pay for the damages. Transcript ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ FBI building - day ] Sue, Lucy and Levi are just arriving for work. Lucy is reading something from a note she's holding. Sue: I don't think you should even mention it to your insurance company. It's not worth the hassle, and your rates will go up. Tara is just arriving for work also, and bumps into them in the corridor. Tara: Someone have an accident? They enter the bullpen. Sue: There was a note on Lucy's windshield that says she dinged a car with her car door. Lucy: Which I did not do. I always check to make sure I have room. This guy says he's gonna call the police if I don't pay him! Myles: Then pay him. Lucy: I don't recall asking for your advice. Myles: Lucy, I'm a gentleman… you don't have to ask. Tara: Something like this happened to me once. I parked my car at the top of a hill with a lake at the bottom… and I must not have put it totally in park when I got out. Anyway, the car starts rolling down the hill right toward the lake. I'm standing there paralysed watching it… there was absolutely nothing I could do. It was, it was really embarrassing. Hmm. Bobby: And… Demetrius: Did it go in the lake? Tara: No, I got lucky. There was a tree at the bottom that stopped it. Bobby: 'Least she didn't hit a tree. Lucy: All I know is Dr Elliott Pierre is very badly mistaken if he thinks I'm gonna roll over and just pay for his little ding. Lucy leaves the bullpen. A man comes in carrying a bunch of brightly coloured balloons. He approaches Bobby. Man: Agent Gans? Bobby: Yeah, right there, mate. Bobby points to Demetrius and the man goes to him. Jack: Oh, is it somebody's birthday? Demetrius: Not mine. The man places the balloons on Demetrius' desk and then walks off again. Myles approaches and picks up the card, taking a look at it. Myles: Ohh… secret admirer? Demetrius snatches the card away from him. Demetrius: Get your own. Myles walks away. Demetrius reads the card, his face dropping. Demetrius: On second thought… you can have these. Demetrius gets up from his desk and dumps the balloons into the trash. Myles looks confused. Bobby goes to Demetrius' desk and picks up the card, looking at it. Jack goes over to see too. Bobby: Hmm, one of those "We've moved" cards. (To Sue) You know, announcing a change of address. Sue slides her desk chair towards them. Sue: Who sent it? Bobby: Jed Whitaker. Jack: Why does that sound familiar? Tara: Where is he moving? Jack takes the card and looks at it. Jack: There's no new address listed. Bobby: No, but his old address is 11 Worth Federal Pentry. [ Opening theme plays ] [ FBI building - day ] Demetrius, Jack and Bobby are heading down the corridor towards the bullpen. Bobby is carrying some papers. Jack: Hey. We checked out your balloon man. Bobby: Jed Whitaker. Real sweetheart, this bloke… (he reads from the papers) armed robbery, attempted murder for shooting a bank guard, twelve years from the state. Loyal prisoner though. Library, he worked, infirmary, the laundry. Sounds like the perfect little homemaker. Bobby hands the papers to Demetrius. Demetrius: Why can't you get information this fast when we're working a case? Jack: What's going on, D? Demetrius: I busted him… must have been over ten years ago. To be honest, I been wracking my brain trying to remember him, and not coming up with much. Jack: Did he strike you as a whacko… dangerous? Demetrius: Not anymore than anybody else. I'll put in a call to the prison ward and see if they know anything. Did he used to pin my picture on the dartboard during rec time, I… Jack: Maybe we ought to pay him a visit, huh? He sends balloons, we send around a welcome wagon… Bobby: If he happens to stop in front of it, yeah… Demetrius: Sounds tempting… but hold that thought. [ Bullpen ] Sue is sitting at her desk, reading over a file. Lucy comes over and touches her arm to get her attention. Lucy: Hey. I got a guy on line three asking for the case agent from Elkin's Holdings, and Demetrius isn't here. Sue: I'm working on it with him. I can take it. Lucy: Ok. A little bit later. Sue walks into the bullpen and approaches Demetrius. Sue: Got a minute? Demetrius: Sure. For you… maybe even a minute and a half. Sue: I took a call from an informant on the Elkin's Holdings case. Demetrius: Hmmhmm… and? Sue: He said he used to deal with the Kansas City office. I checked, and they said he was a goldmine of information. Then, suddenly, he dropped off the radar and they didn't know where he went. He wants to meet with us tonight. Jack: Well, sometimes you just fall into it. Demetrius: Tonight? Sue nods. Demetrius: Figures. I'm meeting Donna for dinner, and I, I can't miss this one. Can we reschedule? Sue: He wouldn't give me his number. He was a bit odd… paranoid. Kansas City said he was like that. Demetrius: (To Jack) Can you cover for me? Jack: Oh sure. I'd love to have dinner with Donna. Jack walks off. Sue laughs. [ Restaurant - evening ] Demetrius is having dinner with Donna, his wife. Demetrius: So… why don't I just start clean by saying… I'm sorry. Donna: Do you know what you're sorry for? Demetrius: Whatever it is you want me to be sorry for. Have I done something? Donna: No. Demetrius: What? Donna: Not exactly. It's just that… I don't think either one of us are very good at this kinda stuff. Demetrius: What kinda stuff? Donna: This… us kinda stuff. Demetrius looks down at the table and nervously scratches at his forehead. Donna: You would never bring it up, and I just let it go way too long. Demetrius: I didn't think there was anything to bring up. Donna: Well, that's something to be sorry for. They sit in silence for a few moments, avoiding each other's eyes. Donna: Do you ever wish that we could be… I don't know… more of what we used to be? Demetrius looks at her for a moment, not answering. His cell phone then goes off. He reaches into his pocket for it and checks the caller ID. Demetrius: This is an informant I've been trying to get hold of. He presses a button to take the call. Demetrius: (Into the phone) Hello. Gans. I need to see you tomorrow. Why don't you make it for the bagel place on 3rd… 10 o'clock. Alright. He ends the call. Demetrius: (To Donna) It's off. Now… what were you saying? Donna: I don't know. What was I saying? A waitress then comes up to their table. Waitress: Mr Gans? Demetrius: Yeah. Waitress: There's a call for you. The waitress walks off. Demetrius looks at Donna. Donna looks frustrated. Demetrius: Excuse me. Demetrius goes off to take the call. Donna picks up her glass of wine. A man approaches the table. He is actually Jed Whitaker. Jed Whitaker: Excuse me. I couldn't help but notice you and your husband. You make a very nice couple. Donna: Thank you. Jed Whitaker: You're lucky… don't ever take it for granted. (He twists the ring on his finger) It would have been… fourteen years next May. Donna: Oh, I'm sorry. Jed Whitaker: Ah, that's alright. Sometimes life throws you a curve. Anyway, have a wonderful evening. Donna: Thanks. The man walks off. Demetrius returns to the table. Donna: Who was that? Demetrius: Hmmm… there was nobody there. But if it's important, I'm sure they'll call me back. Donna: One can only hope. Demetrius: Who was that? Donna: I don't know… just some guy. He actually thinks we make a great couple. We're still fooling the public. Demetrius turns to look out of the restaurant. He sees the man who was talking to Donna and immediately recognises him as the man he busted about twelve years ago, Jed Whitaker. Demetrius rapidly gets up. Donna: Demetri… Demetrius runs out of the restaurant and stops at the edge of the sidewalk. Looking over the road, he sees Jed Whitaker standing on the other side, watching him. A truck goes by, and then he is no longer there. Donna joins Demetrius on the sidewalk. Donna: What is wrong? Do you know him? Demetrius: It's nothing. Donna: (Sounding a little angry) You just ran out of a restaurant… don't tell me nothing! Demetrius: Could you go back inside?… please… I'll be right there. Donna heads back into the restaurant. Demetrius gets out his cell phone and dials Bobby's number. Demetrius: Bobby, it's D. I just saw Whitaker. [ Outside Demetrius' house - evening ] Demetrius and Donna have just arrived home in the car. Donna: Don't you dare get out of this car. Demetrius: Donna… Donna: I'm not going inside while you continue with this macho silent bit. I mean it. Who was he? Demetrius: His name is Jed Whitaker. I arrested him about twelve years ago. Donna: What does he want? Demetrius: I don't know. [ A restaurant - evening ] Sue and Jack are waiting in a restaurant for a meeting with the informant, Dugan, that contacted them. They are sitting at different tables so that it looks like Sue is alone. Dugan arrives and approaches Sue's table. He has disguised his face with an obviously fake beard and moustache, and is wearing silly glasses, a wig and cap. Dugan: (Whispering) Sorry I'm late. Sue: Joshua Dugan? Dugan: (Still whispering) It's a disguise. Dugan motions to the seat on the other side of the table from Sue. Dugan: Do you mind? Sue: Please… sit down. Dugan looks around quickly before sitting down. Dugan: (Still whispering) They're looking for me. That's why I'm wearing this. Sue: Er, who's looking for you? Dugan: Oh, everybody. You guys… at least, the FBI in Kansas City, probably. Sue: I talked to them. They know you're in contact with us now. Dugan: That's good, that's good. Then, they told you my information is good. Sue: Yes, they did. Dugan: Elkin's Holdings… if they even knew I was talking to you… they're probably looking for me right now. It's very dangerous, you know. If they even knew I… Dugan knocks his glass of water and it spills on the table. Dugan: Oh, look what I did. He picks up a cloth and starts mopping up the water from the table. Dugan: I'm not very good in public right now. Dugan pulls a piece of paper out of his pocket and hands it to Sue. Dugan: It's all right there. I've listed over a dozen Aunt Peggy's Chicken franchises. They're laundering money from various sources. And there's more… a lot more. But if you want it… same as in Kansas City. I say and you pay. Look, I gotta go. I'll be in touch. Dugan gets up from the table and walks off quickly. Jack looks over at Sue. [ Outside the restaurant ] Jack, Sue and Levi have just left the restaurant. Jack: (Sounding amused) What was that on his face? Beard club for men? Sue: Well, he's obviously paranoid. Sue gets Levi into the back seat of the car. Sue: He gave me a list of Aunt Peggy's Chicken franchises in Virginia, Maryland and DC… that he says are part of this laundering operation. Jack: Well, I hope he's wrong. Sue: (She looks shocked) Excuse me? Jack: I love Aunt Peggy's Chicken. I can't even think of her heading off to the slam. Sue: I don't really think there's an Aunt Peggy. Jack: Yes, there is! Haven't you seen the sweet, old lady on the picture? Sue: She's not a real person. Jack: So young, so naive, so much to learn. Jack and Sue get into the car and drive off. Across the street we see that Dugan is watching them from his own car. Once Jack and Sue drive off, he takes off the glasses, cap, wig, beard and moustache from his disguise and we see that it is actually Jed Whitaker. [ Bullpen - day ] Sue is doing a little research into Aunt Peggy's Chicken. She finds something, and smiles, getting up from her desk and walking towards Jack, who is sitting at his desk. Sue: (To Jack) The guys down in accounting confirmed Aunt Peggy's Chicken are bogus… they've been investigating them. But… haven't shared that information with anyone. They wanna talk to our guy. Jack: Oh, it's a sad day for grease lovers all over DC. Sue laughs. Meanwhile, Lucy has approached Myles, who is sitting at his desk, reading over a file. Lucy: Myles… I need a favour. Myles: Really? Myles dumps the file on his desk and sits back in his chair. Myles: I seem to remember needing a favour myself not so long ago, and a certain someone… I think it was you… told me to, "buzz off". Lucy: Hey… don't make this worse than it already is. Myles: Where's the fun in that? Lucy: Look, Myles… if there was anybody else I could ask… believe me, I would. But I know you know a lot about cars, so… (She pauses for a moment) It's the ding thing! I can't sleep at night thinking about this Dr Elliott Pierre guy! Myles: Yes… I couldn't sleep either after you told me to "buzz off". I also seem to remember your referring to me as, "you little creep". Lucy: I never said "little". Myles: Well, that makes me feel a lot better. Lucy: Can you please go with me and look at the scratch, and see what this guy is crying about? I, I just really need your… Myles leans forward. Lucy: Expert opinion. Myles grins smugly and leans back in his chair again. Myles: It's so nice to be appreciated. Lucy looks up in despair and walks off. Tara and Bobby approach Demetrius, sitting at his desk. Tara: (To Demetrius) The techs just finished setting up the tap and trace at your house. Demetrius: Alright, I better call Donna. Tara: No, I already called her, and let her know not to say anything she doesn't want us to hear on the phone. Demetrius: Thanks. Tara nods and heads off back to her desk. Demetrius: (To Bobby) What about that restraining order? Bobby: Bad timing, mate. Judge Beech is outta town… found myself in front of the honourable Judge Roland. Yes… it's something about a restaurant being a public place, and this a free country, before inviting me to remove myself from his courtroom. Demetrius sits in silence for a moment, before standing up and addressing the whole team. Demetrius: (To everyone) Who wants to go for a ride? Jack looks up and drops the file he's reading over onto his desk. Jack: Where are we going? Demetrius: Well, it's like the judge says… you know, it's a free country. If he doesn't mind if Whitaker talks to me… he won't mind if I talk to Whitaker. I think it's about time we paid him a welcome visit. Bobby and Jack exchange glances, laughing. Bobby: Whoa. Thought you'd never ask. Demetrius, Jack and Bobby head out of the bullpen. [ Jed Whitaker's house - day ] Demetrius, Jack and Bobby arrive at Jed Whitaker's house and park up the car. They get out and head for the door of Whitaker's home. Demetrius: (As they're approaching) I'll talk to him, let me handle it. Bobby: Ah, you're no fun, mate. Jack: Yeah, maybe we'll get lucky and he'll try to run. Demetrius knocks on the door of Whitaker's house. Receiving no response, Bobby goes over to the window on the right and looks in. Jack goes off to the left. Demetrius knocks again, and Bobby comes back. Bobby: (To Demetrius) I don't think our little balloon man is home. [ Outside Dr Elliott Pierre's house - day ] Lucy and Myles are waiting outside for Dr Elliott Pierre as he arrives home. Lucy puts her hand out to him as he approaches his front door. Lucy: (To Dr Elliott Pierre) Hi. I'm Lucy Dotson. Dr Elliott Pierre reaches into his inside jacket pocket and pulls out his business card, placing it into Lucy's hand. Dr Elliott Pierre: Dr Elliott Pierre. I would like to get this taken care of as soon as possible. Myles takes the business card from Lucy and looks at it. Myles: (To Dr Elliott Pierre) Just what sort of a doctor are you, doctor? Dr Elliott Pierre: My doctorate is in ergonomics from Columbia. Dr Elliott Pierre begins to walk towards his car. Myles follows beside him, looking very interested in what the doctor is saying. Dr Elliott Pierre: I received my masters at Princeton, and my undergraduate degree at Brown. Myles: Princeton? Ah, well then we probably have some acquaintances in common. Do you know a… Lucy pushes Myles away to look at the doctor, interrupting him. Lucy: (To Dr Elliott Pierre) May we see the alleged scratch? Dr Elliott Pierre: (Pointing) It is right here on the passenger door. Lucy leans forward and looks closely. Myles: Hmm. A 69 Corvette, as your blue. Paint code: 97… 6? Dr Elliott Pierre: You know cars. Myles: Is the car I had in college. Dr Elliott Pierre: You had a 69 Stingray? Myles: Well, no. Mine was new. Lucy straightens back up from examining the scratch on the car. Lucy: (To Dr Elliott Pierre) That really doesn't look that bad. Dr Elliott Pierre: This is triple coated, as your blue, 976. Original paint. You can't even get that shade anymore. Myles: (To Lucy) I believe that's right. Lucy: Well, I'm sure it can be fixed. Dr Elliott Pierre: No matter what you do, or think… I know one thing. It will never be in its former, unblemished, perfect condition. Lucy looks at Myles, then at the doctor, and then back at Myles, prompting Myles to stand up for her. Myles: Errr… well… er… let's see here… He stoops down to look at the scratch and runs his thumb over it. He straightens back up and pretends to be thinking for a moment. He then takes in a deep breath. Myles: I'm sorry to have to tell you this (Lucy starts smiling) but there's no way around it. Lucy looks over at the doctor, smiling triumphantly. Myles: This car… (he turns to the doctor) is scarred. Lucy's face drops and the doctor grins smugly. [ Soccer playing field - day ] Demetrius quickly crosses the field and reaches Donna, giving her a quick kiss on the cheek. They are there to watch their son, Davie, play soccer. Demetrius: Game's over already? Donna: About ten minutes ago. Demetrius checks his watch. Demetrius: Ah, just my luck… first soccer game in history to start on time. How'd we do? Donna: We won. Davie scored a goal. Demetrius: Where is Davie? Donna: (Pointing) He's just over there with Andre and Travis. Donna and Demetrius look over and see that Jed Whitaker is talking to Davie. Donna: Demetrius! Demetrius: Davie! Come here. Davie walks over to Demetrius. Davie: Dad. What's going on? Demetrius: It's ok, it's ok. K, just go with your mom. Alright. Just do it. Donna leads Davie away. Demetrius approaches Whitaker. Jed Whitaker: Agent Gans, soccer dad. Demetrius: You got a problem we need to talk about? Jed Whitaker: Oh, no problem. Your boy is er, quite a player. You should've seen him. Demetrius: You hear me, Whitaker. You do not wanna play this game. Jed Whitaker: Relax, Gans. I'm just a soccer fan. Demetrius: Find a different sport. Jed Whitaker: Oh, but I'm so enjoying this one. Demetrius: Well, trust me, you won't if I decide to play too. If I see you, or hear from you again… I will not take mercy. Jed Whitaker walks away. Demetrius gets out his cell phone and dials Jack's number. Demetrius: (Into the phone) Jack, get SOG rolling to Whitaker's address. And scramble a tech unit to my house. [ Inside Demetrius' house - evening ] The tech unit have just finished installing a security system at Demetrius' house. A tech holding a clipboard just checks over an alarm, and then goes up to Demetrius. Tech: You have motion detectors around the entire perimeter, light sensors on all the outside spotlights, and infrared lenses on the cameras. Should be pretty well set. The tech hands Demetrius the clipboard to let him sign the papers. Demetrius signs. Demetrius: Thanks for getting this done so fast. Tech: Not a problem. All the techs leave Demetrius' house. As he is shutting the front door behind them, his cell phone rings. He answers it. Demetrius: (Into the phone) Gans… good… thanks, I appreciate it. He snaps his cell phone shut. Donna enters into the hallway carrying a suitcase. Demetrius: Here, let me get that. Donna: I got it. Donna puts the suitcase down. Demetrius: Bobby just called. We got the restraining order. Donna: Good. (She pauses for a moment) I finally got a hold of my mother. She knows that we're coming. She's happy she's gonna get to see the kids. As soon as I'm finished packing, I'll… pick up the kids at the McDaniel's. You know, Demetrius, this guy's crazy. Demetrius: I don't think he's gonna come back, and if he does, we'll arrest him. In the mean time… the alarm's in, we got SOG on his place, it's all taken care of. Demetrius and Donna stand in silence for a few moments, before Demetrius takes a step forward. Demetrius: You're gonna be back home before you know it. The house phone rings. Demetrius stops Donna from going to answer it. Demetrius: We're busy. The phone goes onto the answering machine. Jed Whitaker: (Over the machine) Hey, Donna. Just wanted to tell you, you look great in the blue robe you're wearing. Demetrius picks up the phone and just listens, running outside and looking around. Demetrius: (Into the phone) Where are you, Whitaker? Jed Whitaker: (Over the phone) Calm down, Agent Gans. Don't want to scare your lovely wife. Demetrius turns around and notices that Donna is now standing in the doorway. Jed Whitaker: You better take her back inside. Demetrius backs his way back up towards the front door, and then turns and quickly gets him and Donna back inside. From behind a tree, Jed Whitaker watches using binoculars. He turns off his cell phone. Demetrius shuts the door behind him and locks it securely. Donna: (Sounding scared) He knows where we live. Demetrius: Don't worry. We're gonna find him. [ Inside Demetrius' house - evening ] Sue and Myles walk into the kitchen, finding Demetrius and Donna. Sue: We canvassed the neighbourhood. Nobody saw much of anything. Demetrius looks at his wife, putting a comforting hand on her back. Jack suddenly rushes into the kitchen. Jack: (To Demetrius) Hey. SOG called. Whitaker just got home. [ Outside Whitaker's house - evening ] Bobby is waiting on the street near Whitaker's home with a couple of other law enforcement agents. Demetrius and Jack arrive and park up behind Bobby's car. They get out. Bobby: Hey. The SOG guys say that he went inside when he got home, then he went out back to the shed about five minutes ago, still in there. Demetrius: Alright. Demetrius, Bobby and Jack head for Whitaker's back garden and approach with caution, not letting their presence known. They see a silhouette of a figure in the shed through a window and duck down behind the trash bins at the back of the garden, guns at the ready. Demetrius: Let me handle this. Jack: Hey, we're just here for back up. Bobby: Yep. Just as Demetrius stands to go to the shed, it explodes. Demetrius dives back down behind the trash bins. Once the explosion is over, Demetrius, Bobby and Jack can only watch the shed burn in the flames. [ Inside Demetrius' house - morning ] Demetrius is sitting on the sofa in the living room. Donna is asleep on his lap. She wakes up and sits up on the sofa next to him. Demetrius: It's too late to watch the sun come up. (He pauses for a moment) It's been too long. (He pauses for a few more moments) When I was a kid… I felt like everything happened in slow motion. I couldn't wait till my sixteenth birthday to get my driver's license. I thought it would never come. Once, it seemed like years. But now… everything happens so fast. It seems like just last week we got married. I remember Tanya being born, and then Davie. It's like a second ago. And now I blink, and… and they're so big. How did we get here so fast? Donna: I know. It's like our lives are flying downhill and… we spend all our time trying to catch up. Demetrius: I want to tell you that… I don't take you for granted. It always seems like there's always something important that demands my immediate attention, pulling me away. And the things that I care for the most get pushed to the back. Donna: That happens to all of us… unless we decide we ain't gonna let it. Demetrius: Yeah. (He gives Donna a quick kiss) I been thinking a lot about that. The house phone then rings. Demetrius looks frustrated for a moment before picking it up and answering it. Demetrius: (Into the phone) Yeah?… Thanks. Demetrius ends the call and puts the phone down. Demetrius: (To Donna) They found ???... Whitaker died in the shed. Donna smiles and hugs Demetrius. [ Bullpen - day ] Charlie enters the bullpen carrying a set of keys and makes his way to Sue's desk. He pats Levi before putting the keys down on Sue's desk in front of her. Charlie: There ya go. Changed the oil, checked the plugs, topped up all the fluids… Across the bullpen, Lucy slams down her phone in frustration. Charlie looks over. Lucy: This is ridiculous! Lucy gets up and walks over to Sue's desk. Lucy: Twelve hundred and seventy two dollars for a scratch I didn't commit. Charlie looks at Sue, a bit confused. Sue: A guy said Lucy dinged his car door. Charlie: Twelve hundred bucks… seems awful high to me. Lucy: Thank you, Charlie. That's what I thought too. Myles is listening to the conversation from his desk and stands up, walking over to them. Myles: The price doesn't sound out of line. We are, after all, talking about a 1969 Corvette. You're lucky he doesn't make you replace the entire door panel. Lucy glares at him. Myles shrugs. Myles: Well, he could you know. Lucy: (Sarcastically) Yeah, yeah, I know. Triple coated, as your blue, paint code 976. Charlie: Oh, oh… I'm afraid Myles is right. That paint is almost impossible to get… you have to mix it up special. Has its own… consistency and colour. Lucy: ???, Charlie. Sue: Charlie. Are you saying you can identify a car by its paint job? Charlie: Not saying I can… but, somebody can. A thoughtful expression crosses Sue's face, and she smiles. [ FBI building - corridor ] Sue is walking down a corridor with Levi and comes across a lab tech walking the other way. Sue: Oh, hi! JP. JP: Sue. How are ya? Sue: Fine, thanks. I have a question for you… JP: Hmmhmm? Sue: If I got the paint from a small dent in a car, could you tell me what car caused the dent? JP: Yeah, probably. Sue: How big does the scraping have to be? JP: Give me an eyelash from a hummingbird… I'll tell you what he had for breakfast. Sue: (Laughing) Isn't it great working for the FBI, Levi? [ Back in the bullpen ] Sue comes back into the bullpen and goes to Lucy's desk. Sue puts her hands onto her hips. Sue: I think it's time we took matters into our own hands. Lucy looks at her carefully and Sue puts on a look of determination. [ Outside Dr Elliott Pierre's house - day ] Sue and Lucy arrive at Dr Elliott Pierre's house. Sue parks up the car. Dr Elliott Pierre's car is parked in front of his house in the driveway. Sue: All we need is a little sample of paint scraping from the ding area. That'll prove it wasn't your car. Lucy: Be careful. I'll cover your back. (She smiles) I've always wanted to say that. Get going. Sue gets out of the car, and watching the house, jogs over to Dr Elliott Pierre's car. She stoops down to get the sample. Lucy watches from inside Sue's car. Lucy then sees Dr Elliott Pierre leaving his house, talking on his cell phone. Lucy: (To herself) Oh my gosh. When I said I'd cover her back, I never thought I'd actually have to do it. Lucy quickly gets out of the car. Levi follows her out. Lucy starts making her way up the drive towards the house and Sue sees her, looking a little confused. Lucy signs to Sue to keep down. Levi runs over to where Sue is, and Sue tries to shoo him away. Dr Elliott Pierre finishes his phone call and Lucy quickly approaches him. Lucy: (Sounding nervous) Hi, hey… Dr Pierre… can I, can I erm… can I, can I talk to you for a minute? Dr Elliott Pierre: What are you doing here? Lucy: I, I just came here to tell you… that, er… Lucy glances over to where Levi is rolling about on the ground near Dr Elliott Pierre's car. Lucy: I'm having trouble with my finances at the moment. And I, I was just wondering if there was maybe erm, you know, a payment planner or something that, that we could work out… that I could pay you in instalments… Dr Elliott Pierre: No. Levi starts barking, looking towards where Sue is hiding behind Dr Pierre's car. Lucy looks over at him. Lucy: Levi, Levi, come here… (To Dr Elliott Pierre, laughing nervously) It's probably a squirrel or something… Dr Elliott Pierre glances over to Levi suspiciously. Lucy quickly grabs his arm to get him to look back at her again. Lucy: So, so, what do you say? Does a payment plan work for you? I mean, it's either that or I'm gonna have to… buy a whole new wardrobe… because, erm… mine won't fit, because I'm not gonna be able to eat, because I can't afford food and your car at the same time, and… I don't have enough money for a new wardrobe, right?... so… Dr Elliott Pierre: What did you have in mind? Lucy: Oh… you know… whatever… a month… Dr Elliott Pierre: A week. Lucy: A week, ok… Dr Elliott Pierre: With interest. Lucy: Ok. Sue finishes up taking the sample and jogs back over to her car. Lucy: (Watching Sue from the corner of her eye) Ok… erm… ok! You know what… let me… let me crunch the numbers and then let me get back to you, and tell you how much I can afford to pay, and still have enough for maybe one meal a day. Dr Elliott Pierre: I will not forgive the interest. Lucy: Ok. [ Bullpen - day ] Demetrius is sitting at his desk, alone in the bullpen. Jack enters. Jack: Hey, big D. Demetrius: Jack. Jack: Time to go home, man. Demetrius: Yeah. Just got something to finish up here. Jack: Everything ok? Demetrius: Everything's kind of an all-encompassed word. Jack: Step into my office. I just happen to have an opening. Demetrius laughs softly. Jack: It's been a tough week. Demetrius nods. Demetrius: You and I have worked together a long time, Jack… been through a lot. Jack nods. Demetrius: You ever think about hanging it up? Jack: No. I can honestly say that I have not. Demetrius: Well, I can't say that anymore. Sometimes I think it would be nice to be able to be home for dinner every night… make weekend plans and actually keep them. I have my wife worry about the father of her children. Jack: You have any idea where you might go? Demetrius: Nope. There's a lot of places I could go. Thinking maybe I should check some of them out. Demetrius reaches forward and picks up a leaflet from his desk. He looks at it. Demetrius: Avion Security. Looking for a few good men. (He laughs) Don't you think I'd look good in a nice, big office with a nice, big salary? Jack: I don't know about that. (He pauses a moment) And I don't know what it's like to have people waiting for you when you come home at night. And I would never try to tell you what to do with your life. But I do know what it's like to have a job that you totally believe in. One way, you wake up every morning and you know that you are doing something good, and valuable, and I know what that means to you. But if you can look me in the eye and tell me that you are ready to hand on your badge and walk away… then I'll be there to support you. I'll help you in any way I can. Demetrius nods. [ Inside Demetrius' house - day ] Demetrius stands in the doorway of the kitchen, watching Donna put something away in a cupboard. He is carrying the Avion Security leaflet. Donna turns and sees him in the doorway and smiles. Donna: Am I under surveillance? Demetrius: If you are, I've been made. Donna laughs. Demetrius goes into the kitchen and he and Donna sit down. Demetrius: I'm gonna leave the bureau. There's some pretty good opportunities out there for a guy with my resume. I'm gonna get something good lined up first… Donna: Have you thought this through? Demetrius: It's all I been doing the last couple of days. It makes sense. Donna: But are you sure this is what you want? Demetrius: I want what's best for us. That's what I want. [ Bullpen - next day ] Lucy's phone rings. It is for Demetrius. She puts the phone down. Lucy: D. Phone call for you, line two. Demetrius: (To Lucy) Thanks. (Into the phone) Gans… yeah, I know who you are, I been kept abreast about what's going on… yeah, I can meet you there… I'm glad you called Mr Dugan. I'll see you then. Demetrius puts his phone down. On the street, Jed Whitaker puts down the pay phone and smiles. Demetrius: Lucy. Get hold of Sue. See if she can meet me at Tony's Café. We've got a meeting with Dugan in about half an hour. Lucy nods. Demetrius picks up his coat and heads for the door. Lucy picks up her phone and starts dialling. [ Street - day ] Demetrius arrives in his car and parks up. He gets out. Dugan/Jed Whitaker sees him arrive (he is disguised as before) and jogs over to Demetrius. Whitaker has concealed a gun underneath his coat and pushes it into Demetrius' back. Dugan: Let's go someplace private where we can have a little talk. Demetrius: Mr Dugan… Dugan: You need to stop talking, and walk, or else I'll have no choice but to put a bullet in you right here. Sue arrives in her own car and sees Demetrius and Mr Dugan walking away. She notices that he is sticking a gun into Demetrius' back, concealed with a coat. Sue: (To herself) Oh my gosh. Sue gets out of the car with Levi. She pulls out her blackberry and gets onto Lucy. [ Bullpen ] Lucy: Jack. Pick up line one, it's Sue. Jack: (Into the phone) This is Jack. What's up? Sue: (From over the phone) Demetrius is in trouble. Jack: What? Sue: He left with Dugan. Jack knocks on his desk to get Bobby and Myles' attention. Meanwhile, on the street, Sue is following Dugan and Demetrius. [ Street ] Sue: Dugan has a gun on him. Looks like they're going into a motel room. Sue hides behind a wall. [ Bullpen ] Jack: Ok. Where are you? [ Street ] Sue: ??? Motel, on Commerce, near ninth. [ Bullpen ] Jack: Alright. Stay put. We're on our way. [ Street ] Sue watches Dugan force Demetrius into the motel room. [ Bullpen ] Jack: Bobby, Myles. Let's move. They leave the bullpen. Jack gets onto his cell phone. Jack: (Into the phone) Come on, D, pick up, buddy. [ Motel room ] Demetrius' cell phone is ringing. Keeping his gun pointed at Demetrius, Dugan/Jed Whitaker pulls Demetrius' cell phone from his jacket and throws it across the room. Dugan: I don't think we'll be needing that, do you? Demetrius: No. Dugan/Jed Whitaker turns Demetrius around and pushes him towards the wall. Dugan: I got a little something for ya. Dugan/Jed Whitaker switches on the room light and Demetrius looks around. On one wall, dozens of photographs of himself and his family are pinned up. Dugan: Nice little collection, isn't it? Jed Whitaker starts removing his Dugan disguise. Demetrius looks on in shock. Jed Whitaker: Fancy meeting… me here. Things aren't always as they appear. Demetrius: Jed… Jed Whitaker: Shut up! Sit down. Demetrius: Alright Jed, take it easy. Jed Whitaker: Don't talk. Demetrius sits down. Meanwhile outside, Sue is trying to see what's going on inside the motel room. She goes back to her blackberry. Sue: (Into the mic) I can't get a visual. [ Back in the motel room ] Jed Whitaker: You move, I shoot you. Demetrius: Alright. Can I get some water? Jed Whitaker: No. Demetrius: How did you change the dental records? Jed Whitaker: It's not difficult if you work in the prison infirmary. As you can see, I've been planning for this moment for er… quite some time, Agent Gans. I simply changed my record with poor Dwayne Langley. Demetrius: He was the one in the shed? Jed Whitaker: And you and me are the only two that are gonna know that. Demetrius: What about Dugan? How'd you know about him? Jed Whitaker: You meet friends of all kinds of friends… in prison. I was a model inmate. That came with privileges. Internet privileges. Any time you made it into the newspaper about a case, I knew it. Big fan. I got this friend… used to talk about this guy, named Josh Dugan, who was feeding information to the FBI about the Elkin's Holding case. Demetrius: That was a Kansas City case. I only work the Washington side. How'd you connect me? Jed Whitaker: Yeah, well, my buddy… you see, he tells me that the Elkin's investigation is expanding into DC, and he figures I'll be interested… because the case agent involved… is a guy named Gans. You see, that's when I knew I had you. When I got out… all I had to do was pay Josh Dugan a visit. He er… he gave me everything I needed. You'll find him buried under a tree in a Kansas park… well, someone will… not you. [ Outside the motel ] Jack, Bobby and Myles arrive on the scene. Sue runs over to meet them. Jack, Bobby and Myles start putting on their bullet proof vests. Sue: (To Jack) They're in room 107. Jack: Ok. He doesn't sound like Josh Dugan. Are you sure he had a gun? Sue: Yeah, I saw it. Myles: Anyone else in there? Sue: I only saw… just two of them. Myles: Doesn't mean there aren't more inside. Bobby: So, what do you think? Jack: Ok. He's not shooting now, but he might if we start busting down the front door. I say we wait for Squat. They're right behind us. Myles, you go around back. We'll take the front. Let's go. [ Inside the motel room ] Jed Whitaker: The real beauty… of this whole thing, is that… everybody thinks I'm dead. When I kill you… they won't even think about me. I thought about you a lot when I was in prison, Agent Gans. Did you think about me? Or were you too busy… with your… perfect little family. My wife left me while I was in prison. Did I tell you that? [ Outside the motel ] Jack and Bobby take their positions at the front of the building, while Myles takes his at the back. Myles: (Over the wire) Jack, are we in position? Jack: (Over the wire) Copy. Hold for Squat. [ Inside the motel room ] Jed Whitaker is pacing back and forth on the other side of the motel room from where Demetrius is sitting. Demetrius: Hey, Jed. I'd probably be doing the same thing you're doing, alright. We underestimated you. Everybody sees that now. Thing is… this is the wrong way to go about it. You're not gonna get anything more out of it by killing me. Jed Whitaker stops pacing and points his gun back at Demetrius. Jed Whitaker: I get the satisfaction. Demetrius stares at Jed Whitaker. Demetrius: What? You're gonna shoot me… from over there? Come on… Jed… why don't you e-mail it? (He stands up) Wimp. Jed Whitaker: Shut up! Demetrius: You wanna shoot me? Let's see you be a man! Come on, Jed, here. (He points) Right between the eyes. Come on, that's the only way to do it. Come on, Jed, what's the matter? You can't do it? Huh? (His voice rising) What are you afraid of? What are you afraid of? What are you afraid of? Jed Whitaker: Shut up, shut up! Meanwhile, outside the motel, Jack can hear the shouting inside. Jack: (Over the wire) Myles, move, move! Myles, Jack and Bobby all bust into the motel room. They wrestle with Jed Whitaker. Jack: Hands behind your back! Jack pulls Jed Whitaker's hands behind his back and proceeds to cuff him. Demetrius breathes a sigh of relief. Jack and Myles pull Jed Whitaker back up to his feet and Demetrius looks at him and takes Jed Whitaker's gun away from him. Sue rushes into the motel room and stops just inside the door. Demetrius: (To Sue) Glad you got here. Sue nods. Bobby and Myles start to lead Jed Whitaker from the motel room. Demetrius: What took you guys so long? Myles: Well, if you want better room service, stay in a better motel. Demetrius: (To Jack) Can I borrow your phone? Jack pulls out his cell phone and hands it to Demetrius. Jack takes Jed Whitaker's gun from Demetrius. Demetrius starts heading out of the motel room. Sue pats him on the shoulder as he walks past her, and then breathes a sigh of relief herself. Outside the motel room, Demetrius gets on the phone to Donna. Demetrius: (Into the phone) Hey Donna, it's me. [ Inside Demetrius' house - day ] Demetrius comes in through the front door and Donna runs to greet him, hugging him tightly. Demetrius: It's over. Donna: If I ever lost you… Demetrius and Donna part. Demetrius: Not a chance. You're stuck with me for a long time. Donna smiles and hugs Demetrius again. [ Demetrius' house, kitchen - early morning ] Demetrius is looking over the Avion Security leaflet. Donna comes into the kitchen. Donna: You ok? Demetrius: I couldn't sleep. Donna goes over to Demetrius and stands behind him, putting her arms around his chest. Donna: Me neither. So many things on my mind. Demetrius: Yeah? Donna lets go of Demetrius and they both sit down. Donna: Er, we need to talk. Demetrius: Seems like we've been here before. Donna: This is different. Now it's my turn to say I'm sorry. Demetrius: For what? Donna: Not supporting you… I got caught up in thinking about we. I love you… and I appreciate what you do for us. And I don't think I've shown that enough. Demetrius: Welcome to the club. I'm sorry too. And this time I know why. Donna: I don't want you to quit the FBI. Demetrius: I'd have thought now more than ever, you'd want me to. Donna: If I really believed that's what you wanted, then that's what I'd want… but I don't believe that. I almost lost you… and, my first instinct was to… run and hide in my own little closet. But that's not how I choose to live. Instead… I choose to… look around and recognise the blessings I've been given… we've been given… and thank God for them, and live each day as if it could be my last. And if it were my last… I know I'd want to spend it with you. And one of those blessings… is the passion you have for what you do… how you totally commit to something. It's what made me feel so special for so long. So, let me ask you a question. Lately… have you been working at us with the same passion you work at your job? Demetrius: (Softly) No. Donna: I don't think I have either. Maybe we should both start. Donna gives Demetrius a kiss. She then picks up the job leaflets from the table. Donna: I'll put these away. Donna puts the leaflets into the trash and leaves the kitchen. [ Bullpen - day ] Sue and Tara approach Lucy, who is sitting at her desk. Tara is carrying some papers. Sue: Guess what? You didn't ding his car. My friend at the lab said that the paint chips embedded in the ding were not from your car. Lucy: (Grinning) Yes! I love the lab! Tara: That's only the beginning. Dr Elliott Pierre is no doctor… he never went to any Ivy League university. He flunked at Adirondack Community College. Tara hands Lucy the papers. Lucy: I knew it. Who calls themselves a doctor unless they can cure something? Tara: But here's the best. I ran the license plate number from his car, and my computer started telling me all kinds of interesting stuff. You're gonna love it. Tara and Sue start heading for the door of the bullpen. Grinning, Lucy follows after them. [ Outside Elliott Pierre's house ] Elliott Pierre leaves his house and heads down the drive to find Lucy, Tara, Sue and Myles all standing by his car. Elliott Pierre: Miss Dotson. I hope you brought a cheque with you. Lucy: Dr Pierre… or should I say, Mr Peters, I have some bad news about your cheque. You're not going to get it. Elliott Pierre: What's going on here? Lucy: I have proof I didn't ding your stupid car. Myles: Unfortunate turn of events. Elliott Pierre: Look, I don't know what you're trying to pull here, but I should warn you, I have friends with the police department. Lucy: (Sarcastically) Of course you do. In fact… Lucy looks over to the road. A police car is at the side of the road and a policeman gets out. Lucy: Here's one of them now. Elliott Pierre: Look, I don't want any trouble… Let's just forget about the ding. Lucy: Ok… Elliott Pierre heads to his car. Tara stops him as he nears, showing him some papers she's holding. Tara: Excuse me but, there is this other matter. Elliott Pierre: What other matter? Sue: The back alimony and child support matter. Lucy: You have an ex-wife and three kids in Cleveland that you owe back alimony in child support to the tune of… fifty seven thousand dollars? Sue: You are not a good dad. Tara: Let's see what your police friends think of that. Lucy: Elliott Pierre, aka Elliott Peters, you're under arrest. Myles: Extremely unfortunate turn of events. Myles reaches forward and takes Elliott Pierre's keys from him. Elliott Pierre: I do not believe this. Tara: Believe it. Lucy: Funny how such a little ding can open up such a big can of worms, isn't it? The police officer starts cuffing Elliott Pierre. Elliott Pierre: What is that tow truck doing here? Sue: Good news. The state is going to fix that ding for you. Tara: And… they're gonna auction it off to the highest bidder. Elliott Pierre: This cannot be happening. Lucy: Relax! It's going for a good cause. The money they make is going to the ex-wife and the kids you seem to have forgotten you have. Myles: Oh. Elliott Pierre closes his eyes in disbelief. Charlie gets out of the tow truck and goes towards the group. Sue: Hey Charlie. Glad you could drop by. Charlie: Oh, I wouldn't have missed it. Not every guy gets to tow an auger blue 69 Corvette. Myles: Triple coated… Myles & Lucy: Paint code: 976. Elliott Pierre: No, no, no. You can't tow this car. It'll throw off it's delicate balance. The police officers start to escort Elliott Pierre to their car. Charlie: Good point. (To Sue) Have you ever driven one of these? Sue: No. Charlie takes the keys from Myles and hands them to Sue. Charlie: (To Sue) Meet you back at the station. Tara pats Sue's back as they both grin in delight. Myles rushes over to the car, and puts himself between Sue and Tara and the car. Myles: Now, wait a minute. If anybody is going to drive this car, it should be someone with experience. Like me. Charlie: (To Myles) Tell ya what… Myles: What? Charlie: (Leading him away from the car) You can ride in the tow truck with me. That way it'll be a new experience for you. Myles: Ah, no, wait… Sue quickly gets into the driver's seat of the car, and Lucy gets into the passenger seat next to her. Tara stands back grinning as Sue starts driving down the driveway. Myles: (Shouting after them) Don't pump the clutch! Sue drives herself and Lucy off down the road.
